On Thursday, December 15, I received an e-mail from Rod, letting me know that my newest guitar was finished and I'll receive it on Saturday. Unlike the last time, I did know about this one. Rod sent me a picture as well as a video of the newly finished guitar.
This story began about a year ago, shortly after I took delivery of my first RD. A left hand injury from 2008 that occasionally hinders my guitar playing caused me to try to learn to play left-handed. Since I am naturally left-handed, I thought it wouldn't be that hard to switch. It has proved to be much more difficult than I thought, but perhaps that is because I have forgotten how it was learning to play the first time.At the Healdsburg Guitar Festival this year, I spent quite a bit of time looking for my custom lefty possibilities, though I wasn't planning on getting one for a few years. However, when I played some of Rod Schenk's guitars, especially a Rosewood/Adirondack RD (righty, of course), I knew what I wanted.
Although my lefty playing is not very good, I can tell this guitar has a beautiful, resonant voice. It makes me sound better than I am.
