TaylorStock 2002 Guitar Glimpses

Guitar Glimpses

--------------------------------

TaylorStock was a short two days, but for many, TaylorStock has not yet ended as they (im)patiently wait for the guitar(s) they ordered. Production of TaylorStock guitars began on September 9, 2002 and will continue into October. On September 19, I saw a few possible TS guitars. Here are a couple Cindy inlaid necks, a ziricote body, and a satinwood body.

On September 23, all the necks that were chosen at TaylorStock were shaped. Here are a couple of MJH's maple necks and some special TaylorStock labels. Although the following are not necessarily TS guitars, they may be of interest to some. Here is a special ordered 714ce with some cocobolo underneath. Here is an 814ce-ltd getting its maple binding and some 800 limited series necks with koa and maple binding.

The highlight of September 25 was definitely seeing Tim's 914c, rosewood back, redwood top, and rosette. What a great guitar! I'm not sure who "Day" is, but it looks like a cocobolo 914ce. Here's a beautiful redwood top. Here is the back and sides of what looks like a 915 ziricote and the sides of another ziricote guitar. The inlay on this 810 fretboard (top) looks like it's from the Walnut series ... anyone know who ordered that one? Although these might not be TS guitars ... Here's a V-neck getting its fretwire and after fret pressing. More cocobolo (Can one ever have too much cocobolo?) and a very nice 710c.

September 27 was a day of many guitars in the final stages. Here are the Ziricote back, sides, and redwood top of a 814ce or 914ce with koa binding. Here's a 915 Ziricote and another Ziricote guitar getting ready for final assembly. Here's a cart with two Satinwood guitars in final inspection. Here's a closeup of the Satinwood sides and the neck of the Satinwood with Cindy inlay. They may not be TaylorStock guitars, but here are some 800 limited series necks with koa and maple binding. And, here's an NS top in vacuum suction while the bracing's glue dries and the finished top.

Note: I just added the labels taken September 25. I didn't include them earlier since they're very blurry. I think the first one is Joe M, second I can't read, third is Doug L., fourth I can't read, and the last one is Jennifer's.

The highlight of October 2 was finally seeing a glimpse of my guitar. Although it's only the peghead veneer, I'm glad to see it in its early stages. I think this is the back and sides of Doug's Ziricote 914. Here is the top and sides of another Ziricote guitar in the finish department. Here are the top and sides of a maple 310 that might be a TaylorStock guitar. Here is another maple 310. And ... some more TaylorStock labels. They might not be TaylorStock guitars, but here's some Cocobolos in the binding department ... one getting its binding installed and another with its binding. And, for all of you interested in bracing ... here's a picture comparing the new dreadnought bracing with the old.

While feeling a little down that some Forum members were getting their guitars before mine was even started, something happened on October 4 that made me forget all about that. While walking to the station where fretboards are sanded, I noticed that the frets were being installed on a neck and the moment I got a good look at the neck, I said, "Oh, my gosh, that is mine!" And here's the work order which confirmed my allegations. And although I was quite content and excited about my findings, less than a half hour later I was asked if I wanted to see my guitar. "You can't be serious," I exclaimed. But they were serious and showed me the custom specs sheet attached to the guitar.

Here is the redwood top, back, and sides of a beautiful 810c. Here are the backs of three more cocobolo guitars, Joe's, Diane's, and one more. Here's another nice cocobolo guitar, though it may not be a TaylorStock one. Here are a few pictures of maple binding being installed on peghead veneer ... stage 1 ... stage 2 ... stage 3 ... stage 4. Here's a beautiful 500 abalone rosette and a Doyle Dykes Desert Rose neck from this Fall's limited series guitars. And here is the sunburst top and sides of a PS-10.

On October 10, I had a quick walk-through the Factory to look for guitars as no one else showed up for the tour. Since I was walking through on an accelerated schedule, I did not get a chance to have a really good look for TaylorStock guitars. However, I did get another glimpse at Jeffrey's cocobolo which is waiting for its neck. I also got to see the top, back, and sides of my 810-ltd. Although not a TaylorStock guitar, quite by surprise, I was also able to see the top, back, and sides of my PS-10. What a day!

On October 16, I had another good look at my guitars. Here are the top, back, and sides of my recently finished 810-ltd and my koa in the finish department. Here's the back of someone's 814ce-ltd and cocobolo peghead veneer with maple binding.

On October 18, I had no sighting of my guitars, but I did get to see Mike's cocobolo. The tour guide was directing our attention to a cocobolo limited being worked on in final assembly. As soon as I saw it, I knew whose guitar it was and I said, "That's a Forum guitar!" And a second later, I asked, "Can I get a picture of it? Mike would kill me if I say I saw his guitar and didn't have pictures." So, here's the top, back, and sides of his guitar. Here is a closeup of the fretboard inlay.

On October 25, the only possible TaylorStock guitar I spotted was an 814ce with Cindy inlay.
