Musical Notes

On The Leach Cremona

--------------------------------

At Winter NAMM 2013, I had a talk with Harvey Leach. It dawned on me that he could be the answer to a question I had been asking myself. Since his guitars can be strung up both left-handed and right-handed (not at the same time, of course), I would not have to worry about buying either a left-handed or right-handed guitar ... I could have both

After months of corresponding by e-mail, Harvey found the right set of Brazilian Rosewood and we discussed possible options. I really could not make up my mind as I had only played a few of his guitars at the Healdsburg Guitar Festival two years before. So, on May 4, we traveled to Sacramento and visited Harvey's shop where he graciously set out some guitars and wood for the Saturday afternoon.

The visit was delightful. My favorite guitar was a Cremona with Walnut back and sides and a Redwood top. A close second was a Cremona with Rosewood back and sides and an Italian Spruce top. Looking through stacks of wood was like being a kind in a candy store ... and quite yummy.

During the week following our visit, Harvey sent a few in progress pictures of the back and top. Look at the beautiful mosaic rosette.

On July 11, Harvey sent in progress pictures of the sides.

A week later, the box is all put together!

Another week passes, and finishing touches to the body.
