Just when you think you have heard and seen it all, something new comes along.
This journey started shortly after the Summer NAMM show in Nashville when Taylor Guitars announced their Fall Limiteds. The series that caught my eye was the Cocobolo Presentations ... but I was unsure about what I would want to order. However, indecision did not last long ... if Taylor would build a Grand Auditorium with a Redwood top, I would soon be waiting a bit impatiently for a new guitar.
At the beginning of September, I had the opportunity to provide input in the wood selection ... including a stunning Redwood top ... and some breathtaking Cocobolo. Then came the difficult part ... waiting ...
During the wait, I was able to see the guitar twice during production. Here are pictures of the top, back, and sides prior to binding. I also watched while a factory worker began to prepare the guitar for Ivoroid binding. About two weeks later, this past Tuesday, it was in Final Assembly. Here are the top, back, and sides.
Unexpectedly, I got the call that it had been delivered to my dealer yesterday. Although I knew it was nearly finished, the expected delivery was still about two weeks away, so it was a pleasant surprise. It was a long night before getting to finally seeing the guitar this morning, but it was worth the wait.
I already knew it was a beautiful looking guitar. However, I was not ready for its unbelievable deep and rumbling voice. I have not yet compared it against other guitars, but I am certain that it will be a favorite.
